altButch Seargent’s experience in city government is second to none.  With almost thirty years in city government, he is well acquainted with our community’s past and has the vision for it’s future. In 2004, Butch was elected to one of the twelve Murray City Council seats. He is now serving his third term on the Council.  Butch was a candidate for Mayor of Murray in 1989 and won the primary election over three other challengers. He advanced to the general election in November only to lose by a very small margin to Bill Cherry. After twenty years, Butch’s dream to be Mayor of this wonderful city is, again, a very real possibility.

altButch has been head Elder of Murray Family Church since 2000.  He has also owned a private surveying business for more than thirty years.  After fourteen years as Director of Planning and Engineering in Murray and one year as Mayfield City Planner, he retired from city government to enter the ministry in December 2002.  He has lived at 602 Main Street for twenty-eight years with Jan, his wife of forty-three years. They moved to Murray from Tappahannock, Virginia in August of 1976 with their two sons Trice and Todd.  Jan is the Guidance Counselor at Murray Elementary School.  She has twenty-nine combined years of experience in the Kentucky school systems, with twenty-five of those years in Murray.  Trice is employed by BB&T in Murray as a Vice President.  He and his wife Kristen have two daughters; Allie, 9, and Bethany, 6. Todd is employed by Forest Pharmaceuticals.  He and his wife Monica are parents to five children; Kaylee, 13, John, 11, Garrison, 10,  Abigail, 9, and Sophie, 1 month.
